Jan Mackenzie, Education Services Manager of Polycorp demonstrates the fuctions and value of the Poly computer in the classroom. The Poly system was designed by New Zealand teachers who wanted a computer system specifically designed for education in New Zealand schools. It was developed by researchers at Massey University and tested at Wellington High School. The Poly computers have four main functions; One: for computer assisted learning; Two: to teach computer awareness; Three: to teach computer studies and programming; Four: to assist in school administration. The poly was able to be part of a networked system of up to 16 computers and it’s software catered to all high school subject areas at different levels. Poly plays it’s own version of Scott Joplin’s “The Entertainer” while the credits roll. (The Poly was eventually eliminated from commercial competition by Apple who offered a 75% discount on their own computers to schools)
