This item is part of the Tauranga Libraries Norman Blackie Collection. Norman Blackie (1899-1993) was a keen amateur filmmaker who captured civic events around Tauranga using a modified Keystone Model A7 16mm camera.

This actuality shows scenes from various ANZAC Day parades in Tauranga between 1954 and 1976. An opening slate reads 'SOME ANZAC DAY PARADES 1962-1976' [however the item also depicts earlier ceremonies].

Footage includes scenes of: a parade in the Tauranga Domain, musical bands lead a group of Returned Service men, army and youth groups; a 1954 memorial service pamphlet; officials parading; and crowds at Memorial Park.

Next, footage shows: a 1955 ANZAC memorial service pamphlet; parade scenes at Tauranga Domain; laying of wreaths; an army cadets display; the Domain's memorial gates and carillon; and officials including military, the mayor and a minister.

Further footage shows: a 1969 ANZAC memorial service pamphlet; a parade of dignitaries; the mayor and other representatives raising the flag and laying a wreath; crowds watching planes fly overhead; and the parade passing the memorial gates. Footage then shows shots of sailors on ship H.M.N.S Kiama and people enjoying a ride on the Tauranga District Museum fire truck.

Further ANZAC memorial footage shows: sailors on guard at the Memorial gates; Returned Service personnel marching; members of the Armed Forces, the Red Cross, cadets and veterans of other countries' forces; service Memorial Park; wreath laying; a gun fire display and more marching as a large crowd watches on.
