This item is part of the Tauranga Libraries Norman Blackie Collection. Norman Blackie (1899-1993) was a keen amateur filmmaker who captured civic events around Tauranga using a modified Keystone Model A7 16mm camera.

This actuality shows activities around Tauranga, including a speed boat event at the beach, festivities at the airport, and scenes from a timber processing factory. These events are possibly part of the annual week long festivities attached to the Tauranga Orange Festival.
Beach scenes include: Pohutukawa in heavy bloom; speed boats zooming around; dancing group perform on stage; contestants parade on stage.
Further footage shows: road works; sign showing distance to Whakatane, Rotorua, Mount Maunganui and Te Puke; a house being demolished; and a street parade with a Māori themed float, horse and cart and an anti-dairy float.
Airport scenes include: small planes and a New Zealand Air Force plane; gymnastics, wrestling and trampoline displays; picnicking; scouts by a radio repairs truck; go-cart races; marching demonstrations; and a pipe band.
Industrial scenes show a demolition site and group [electricians] disembarking an Easternliner bus then touring a timber processing factory [saw mill Putaruru].
