A tribute to the work of one of New Zealand’s greatest photographers – Marti Friedlander.

Friedlander turned to photography as a way to negotiate a relationship with New Zealand. Her outsider’s eye, curious and questioning but never unfriendly, saw the country with freshness and intensity. The Passionate Eye explores the mysteries of good photography and the lively interaction between the photographer and her subjects, ranging from children, Prime Ministers and back-country farmers to nuns and rock singers.

Settle in for a weekend binge-fest of films by or about some of the best photographers in New Zealand’s history, brought to you by Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision in collaboration with Photival Festival and Te Auaha.
