Treasures from the Vaults: Our Documentation and Artefacts Collection

Peanut Vendor Monkey

Treasures from the Vaults is your quarterly opportunity to get behind the scenes and learn more about the treasures we collect and care for at Ngā Taonga.

This month we're showcasing the Documentation and Artefacts collection. Our Documentation Archivists Mishelle Muagututi'a and Tracy White will present "Exit Through the Vault" where they will talk about their work and share some favourite items from the vaults. In a quick-fire journey through their highlights and special discoveries they look at how these carefully preserved items are shared with researchers both locally and internationally.

From Aunt Daisy to bro'Town, Levin to Len Lye and places between and beyond - the collection includes around 200,000 images; more than 2,000 posters; around 1,000 scripts; production records; private papers, scrapbooks and manuscripts; animation cels; paintings and graphic design; glass slide cinema advertising and magic lantern slides from the pre-cinema era.

The collection also contains artefacts such as film and television props, costumes, television sets, cameras, microphones, radios, and projection technologies from across the ages.

To finish there will be a Q&A session with our documentation experts.

Tickets for this special evening come with a complimentary drink (house wine, beer or OJ).
