On behalf of all iwi gathered, Sir Apirana Ngata greets Governor-General Sir George Galway in English, at Tūrangawaewae Marae for the opening of Tūrongo House and the investiture of Princess Te Puea Hērangi with the CBE.
Ngata begins with a comment, in te reo, to Te Arawa performers to wait until after he finishes speaking!
In his speech Ngata reflects on the adjustments Māori have had to make and speaks about the support the Kīngitanga enjoys from different, but not all, iwi.
