Collection Manager, Repository – Poutaki Pātaka

Ngā Taonga is the audiovisual archive for Aotearoa New Zealand and an independent Charitable Trust committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. This is an opportunity to join an organisation passionate about caring for and sharing the precious taonga in the collection ensuring all New Zealanders will be able to know their history and connect with their cultural identity. The Repository team are responsible for undertaking a range of repository functions relating to our collections, to ensure effective and safe care, storage, and movement of our physical audiovisual taonga.

The team champions robust processes and practices around the safe movement and handling of our collections, collaborates with other teams and kaimahi on activities and projects, and contributes to the H&S procedures of our physical collection management practices.

Ko ngā pūkenga e hiahiatia ana | About you

We’re looking for someone excited by the idea of taking the lead role in our Repository function, who can bring their leadership and operational experience to develop and deliver on Collection care and storage projects, plans and initiatives.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Proven experience in physical collection storage, management and care, ideally with audiovisual components.
  • Excellent time management and planning skills and the ability to maintain high standards and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Experienced in project management, planning, development and implementation.
  • At least three years’ experience in people and budget management.
  • Excellent communication skills including in the creation of procedures, standards and reports.
  • Strong awareness of the importance of robust H&S practices.
  • A problem solver with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • A good level of comfort operating in a tikanga / kaupapa Māori environment.
  • Full NZ Drivers’ License.

Ko ngā whāinga o te tūranga: | The role will see you:

In this role you will work closely with the Group Manager Collection Management and the wider Group, as well as collaborate with key kaimahi and stakeholders to develop and maintain robust practices, contribute to business continuity, and proactively support the development of appropriate tikanga around collection care in line with our policies and strategies.

The role will see you:

  • Be a thought leader in the development of collection handling and management principles and standards.
  • Provide specialist advice on collection care and storage issues.
  • Lead the planning, budgeting and monitoring of collection storage needs and capacity across the network of repositories, in collaboration with other managers and kaimahi.
  • Apply robust practices that ensure safe movement and handling of collection items, including developing and providing training to other kaimahi.
  • Maintain a high-level understanding of the Health & Safety and Work Act 2015 and support compliance with Health and Safety policies.
  • Provide a consistently high standard of people and operational management and ensure team functions are kaupapa-centred, effective and high performing.

Salary: $94,515 - $111,194+ superannuation
