Police in Northland and Nelson are investigating two double shootings over night. An arrest has been made in Nelson after two men were injured. In Maungakaramea, Northland a man has been charged with the murder of his sister and brother in law.

Hundreds of people, angry at benefit cuts, marched in the streets of Whangarei today.

Southland freezing workers are prepared to strike in support of their colleagues at the Mataura works. Other meat workers in the Alliance Group will also be asked to support the action.
