The Office of Treaty Settlements has also been accused of splitting iwi interests and setting iwi against iwi.

A land development to pay off a major debt fro a failed forestry venture has torn apart a Tūwharetoa hapū. Ngāti Rauhoto o Te Urunga uri and film maker Carey Carter is documenting the dispute and excerpts are provided to contextualise the fallout. The land in dispute is Otūparae Point on the northern shores of Lake Taupō. The site was registered as an historical site of significance in 1977. The Symphony Development Group claim to not know aout the waahi tapu status of the land.

Te Ururoa Flavell’s private members bill The Public Works (Offer Back of and Compensation for Acquired Land) Amendment Bill. The Public Works Act is the single most worse legislation that alienated Māori land. Bastion Point Takaparawha, Raglan Golf Course, Paraparaumu Airport, pockets of land around Whakatāne and many other tracts of land were taken under this and other legislation.
