The Central North Islands is only now starting to dry out after two days of torrential rain. The Waikato River reached its highest point in ten years, and many minor routes through the South Waikato and the King Country were effected.

There have been two armed offender alerts in different parts of the North Island today: a gang confrontation at Te Teko in the Bay of Plenty, and at Warkworth where police surrounded a house where a man has been firing shots.
