Talk "Action at Last" by Captain Maurice Morgan of Wellington.

"Just three weeks ago the Company was sent forward to secure
a beach-head.[This was possibly on Vella Lavella?] The first group off the boat was to check that there were no Japanese about to interfere with the landing of the Company. Everything was unloaded very quickly.

A patrol, led by Lloyd Sanders of Auckland was sent out to locate the enemy. When they returned they reported killing some Japanese but they found it hard to make progress in the jungle.

When more troops arrived a platoon under Lieutenant Doug Shirley of Dunedin was sent out to find the enemy and destroy them.

Finally our platoon comes back just before nightfall. They had spent
four hours under guerilla fire. Lieutenant Doug Shirley and his men have
done their job. We lost some grand fellows and determined soldiers."

He ends by sending greetings to friends and family.
