Talk by Captain K.L.Sandford of Hamilton on The Treasury Islands.

[Recorded by the New Zealand mobile recording unit in the Solomon Islands.]

Captain Sandford describes the physical characteristics of the islands of Mono and Stirling, and notes that they are within easy reach of Japanese aircraft on the nearby Shortland Islands and Bougainville, but the Japanese are out of aviation fuel.

He describe night fighting in the jungle and the difficult conditions on the islands, with stifling heat and mud.

He ends by describing the beauty of the Coral Sea, but notes that he would happily swap the beauty for a view of a patch of land he knows in Peach Grove, Hamilton.
