CONINGHAM, Arthur
Great Britain. Royal Air Force

Air Vice Marshall Arthur Coningham CB DSO MC DFC AFC talks about the New
Zealanders serving with the Royal Air Force. He said that there were not many New
Zealanders serving but they were making themselves felt both by the
enemy and their fellow comrades. The Air Vice Marshall describes the
geography of the desert and describes the men's living conditions.

The enemy in the majority was the Italian Air Force and some German
airmen. The RAF base was a piece of desert turned into an aerodrome in a
period of 48 hours. The RAF is a part of the Eighth Army and he said it
was a pleasure to look after Bernard Freyberg and his men in November
1941.
