Jim Sullivan interviews Gilbert Stringer, the inaugural director-general of the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation (NZBC) who recalls the setting up of the NZBC news service, the approaches to the New Zealand Press Association, the work of Bert Hall and John Schroder and the eventual establishment of the service by the NZBC Board in 1962. The National Party were not keen initially about the Corporation setting up the news service but allowed the planning of a service.
