Programme 1, Part 1. The programme opens with an unidentified Dixieland theme. Unidentified announcer: "Jazz Concert, Radiant Theatre, Christchurch, Wednesday 18th July, 1951. The first time in the city that a concert audience had the chance to see and hear modern music makers in action." He explains this is a delayed broadcast of some of the big bands and small groups heard that evening.

First, a Doug Kelly arrangement played by Doug Kelly's Radio Band. ['Elevation']

Bob Bradford's Quartet play 'Honeysuckle Rose' (Bob on piano, Rod Derett on Spanish electric, Jimmie Gallagher on bass and Jim Shanahan on drums.)

'Blue Skies' played by Bob Bradford on piano, Peter Davy, tenor [saxophone], Cliff Inns, trumpet, Jimmie Gallagher, bass and Jim Shanahan on drums with Martin Winiata on clarinet and taking the vocal.
