Jack Perkins presents From the Back Country - 'tales from out of town'. In this episode Southland identity Dr Eric Elder continues his recollection of his 40 years experience as a rural practitioner in the Tuatapere region.

He tells a number of stories about dealing with serious accidents in the isolated area. There were many accidents from work with heavy machinery in sawmilling and bush farming. He speaks about two patients who suffered gunshot wounds, one who was injured while in the mountains and had to be carried out.

He also speaks about the nature of counselling, and adapting his skills to assist in veterinary cases.
