We begin our programme with an interview with the Governor General, Lieutenant General Sir Jerry Mateparae. This is his second Waitangi Day as Governor General - like Sir Paul Reeves before him, he is a living embodiment of the Treaty partnership - he is the official representative of the Queen, and he is Māori.

Hastings celebrations
The Kahungunu Iwi is encouraging the people in Hawke's Bay to get active to celebrate the national day. A range of sports competitions will be held at the Hawke's Bay Sports Park in Hastings, which will be played alongside a wide range of cultural performances. Joining us is the promotions and events manager for Ngati Kahungunu, Te Rangi Huata.
