In this recording, Howard Morrison is interviewed about his singing career. Freshly out of school he was asked to sing and given 10 shillings for it. Used to sing a lot with fellow workers at the Wakatipu Freezing works. After coming back from Australia with the Māori Concert Party in 1956 he formed the idea of a quartet.
In 1960 they left their jobs and went to Auckland and two months down the track had a couple of hits and his musical career snowballed from there. Quartet does not go along with the fads of the day and their live shows are versatile and varied including ballads, comedy and rock'n'roll.
Finds the New Zealand audiences are polite in that even if you are bad they will sit through it. Australian audiences not so easy to please as they are used to the big names and expect to be entertained.
