Christ Church Cathedral (Nelson (N.Z.)

The documentary came about because of the dismantling of the organ, prior to the demolition of the old wooden chancel, in preparation for building works to complete the cathedral. Work started on the rebuild in 1964, so the dismantling therefore probably took place in 1963. Kerry Stevens, the interviewer, worked for Radio Nelson - 2XN as it was then known. Ralph Lilly, the organist and choirmaster, interviewed at the start, was also the music master at Nelson College, and the College provided the main cathedral choir.
