D SERIES - Sir Cyril Newall's Farewell. This recording features the speech given by Governor General Sir Cyril Newall at his farewell ceremony in Wellington on 11/4/1946. In part two of this recording, Newall emphasises the need for tree plantation and forestry in New Zealand; he thanks his friends at the Wellington branch of the Returned Services' Association; expresses his sorrow for the soldiers lost in Gallipoli; congratulates the women who worked for the Patriotic Fund; describes the aftermath of World War Two; and discusses the importance of maintaining unity with the rest of the British Empire.
