An unidentified veteran talks about the Awapuni training camp.

He was in the Machine Gun section in Wanganui, but says he was the only one of out twenty-six who volunteered to go overseas.
He recalls going into Awapuni Camp at Palmerston North. The cooks cooked in dixies out in the open.
One night they marched about ten miles down to the river bank and Harry Lauder gave them a concert and they slept out in the open.
After another march they were met in the Square, where the Mayor made a speech and gave each man an apple.
