Curry, Arch, 1905-1964, Commentator
New Zealand Mobile Broadcasting Unit

Arch Curry, operating with the New Zealand mobile broadcasting unit, presents a commentary on an Army Service Corps parade near the village of Piedimonte d'Alife, about 50 miles north of Naples, Italy.

1. After the New Zealand troops transferred from the 8th Army to the 5th Army on the opposite Italian coast, General Freyberg inspected the troops at the parade, accompanied by Brigadiers Crump, A.S.C. and Weir, Field Artillery.

The band of A.S.C. under Staff Sergeant Smith, plays in the background as Arch Curry describes the scene, taking place beneath snow-covered mountains. Many men are wearing the Africa Star decoration. This is a very large parade, so Curry breaks recording until the church service which follows the inspection.

2. The troops sing the hymn "O God our help in ages past" followed by "God Save the King."

3. Following the service, Curry again commentates, describing General Freyberg taking the salute from on top of a tank transporter as the A.S.C. men march past him. (The band plays a march "Sons of the Anzacs" in the background.)

Arch Curry ends his commentary by listing the A.S.C. commanders seen in the parade: Lt. Colonel Bracegirdle, Majors Forbes, Coleman, Bean, Hunter and Coutts. Captain Demounth (?) is representing Major Roberts. Captain Toogood commanding Headquarters Company and Adjutant Hec Gray.
