Holmes, Maurice, approximately 1909-1998

Tk 2 of 4 from T 888, recorded 03/08/73. Maurice Holmes, a New Zealand champion driver of horse racing, gives a rare interview on the eve of his retirement. He reflects on trotting in general and the influences his father had on his career. Talks about racing styles and how you have to be focused in a race as you don't know what is behind you. Believes betting on the horses is too risky as horses are not consistent in their running or form and has not bet himself. Mentions horses being sold overseas and thinks they have done their dash in NZ. He has one more race before his retirement at age 65 years. (NB. It is noted that Holmes seldom gave interviews to anyone).
