Commentary of the visit by Brian Salkeld [poor quality audio, which was transmitted from the Chatham Islands by shortwave radio.].

Tape 1.
- Description of the arrival of the Duke at the Centennial and War Memorial Hall and meeting with the local officials on the Chatham Islands.
Actuality of cheering and a faint karanga. [Apart from the interview with Mr Kamo, there is no other actuality from the islands on this tape - just description by the commentator.]

- Describes the gifts presented to the Duke and the Queen - a pictorial map of the islands and a powder bowl of ake ake wood for the queen.
- Introduction of speeches by the County Chairman Mr Holmes and the Duke, but the speeches are not included.
- Mentions several of the local families, Mr T.T. Solomon, the Hunt family.
- Departs for the Hospital by car.
- P.J. Collins superintendant of the station, greets the Duke at the radio station. The Duke enters the station to view it and meet the staff. Then goes to look at staff quarters, recreation room, etc.
- Farm scene with radio aerials overlooking the bluff.
- Meets Mrs Collins and Mrs Reilly and their children.
- Arrives at the racecourse at Waitangi and sits in the grandstand. Description of the course and surrounding area. Meets Mr S.W. Hunt and Mr Day.
- Interview with Mr [Jack] Kamo who is in charge of the hangi. He explains the process of making the hangi, building the fire, the stones, and adding the food in netting wire baskets which will be the luncheon, to feed no less than 500 people.

- Call to studio by announcer explaining these tapes have not been edited.

Tape 2
- Speech by the County Chairman [David Holmes] and the Duke from outside the Memorial Hall, including the presentation of gifts. First time Royalty has been to the Chathams. Then the Duke replies.
- Three cheers and the National Anthem with crowd singing.

- Call to studio by announcer.

Tape 3.
- Repeat of the Duke's speech.
- Call to studio, apologises for the quality.

- Lyell Boyes comments on the arrival of the Duke on the island at Waitangi, Petre Bay, December 19, 1956. Three other ships are currently at anchor.
- Description of the scene and the Britannia, and of the Duke as he steps ashore and meets the Resident Commissioner, Mr J. Paterson, and County Council Chairman, Mr D. L. Holmes.
- The Duke enters the car, then commentary of car trip to the Memorial Hall.

Tape 4.
- Lyell Boyes describes the morning tea at the Residency with Mr and Mrs Paterson.

- Call to studio giving details of recordings yet to come from the race meeting.

Tape 5.
- Commentary by Lyell Boyes on the Duke's visit to the Chatham Hospital, with Dr R. Davidson and Sister M. Emelda. Description of the hospital grounds.
Interview with the only patient, Mrs O. Johanson, who has recently given birth and Sister Emelda about their interaction with the Duke. Mrs Johanson's 3 day old baby is called Elizabeth Ann.
