Whaikōrero: Hetekia Te Kani Te Ua (Te Aitanga a Māhaki) gives tribute to Apirana Ngata and also to the Bishop of Aotearoa Wiremu Panapa. He greets the Mayor of Gisborne including a reference to Mayor Harry Barker and traces the Takitimu waka through to Ngāti Kahungunu.

Whaikōrero: Arnold Reedy speaks about the Tākitimu marae being the marae of Timi Kara and others. He pays tribute to Brigadier Dittmer and welcomes the Te Arawa contingent, especially Kuru Waaka, and extends a welcome to all companies of the 28 Māori Battalion.
