Tribute to Hēnare Tuwhangai (ex-conferral of Honorary Doctorate from Waikato University, October 1983).

Thousands of people converged on to Tūrangawaewae Marae last week to pat their tributes and respect to the late Hēnare Tuwhangai. He symbolised the best of the Tainui/Waikato people, a powerful and authoritative orator, historian, and a legend of his time.

The Doctorate was conferred by Mr David Tonkin, the chancellor of Waikato University.
