The Waiatarau Community Centre in Auckland's Freemans Bay has been the venue for a programme held under the joint auspices of the Department of Labour and the New Zealand Māori Artists and Writers Society, now renamed "Te Puna Waihanga".
The young people on the programme, who are mostly Māori, express their creativity in different ways - two of these being song and drama. The programme was directed by Don Selwyn, who is interviewed by Hēnare Te Ua about the programme.

Four songs are heard through the programme:
- Tutahi Tonu
- Sucked In
- Tu Mokemoke
- In Our Head
The songs were written as part of the programme, and were recorded in the Radio New Zealand studios.
Kui Wano was responsible for music training. Don Selwyn was responsible for the drama component, and Whatanui Skipworth worked with the trainees on taha Māori.
