THE MELBOURNE MOOMBA FESTIVAL -
Each year for the last thirty years the people of Melbourne have celebrated the Moomba Festival. [NB: Moomba is the Aboriginal name for "Coming together to have a good time".] 1986 saw a different idea being presented and one that looked as though it would develop.
Two young enterprising Māori from the Kahungunu area set up a company in Sydney with the aim of promoting Pacific and mainly Māori cultures to Australians. As well as touring schools the company Takitimu Productions featured at the 1986 Moomba Festival along with a group of Pacific Island
dancers. The company is headed by Tama Huata.
