This is a weekly two-hour current affairs program from a Māori perspective every Monday 10am to Midday.
Paakiwaha is hosted by Willie Jackson (Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Porou) and broadcast nationwide by Radio Waatea with funding from New Zealand On Air.

Rodney Hide: Act Leader, MP and Minister for local government, talks with Willie about the lack of Māori Seats on the Auckland Super City Council. Rodney explains his view on why he thinks the way he does.

Tariana Turia: MP, Māori Party Co-Leader, responds to what Rodney Hide had just said. Tariana also talks about what is scheduled in Cabinet today pertaining to Māori Seats on the Auckland Super City Council and the political process' in place.
Tariana also talks about the smacking referendum and how she perceives things.

Bentham Ohia: CEO of Te Wananga o Aotearoa talks with Willie about the passing of Academic senior researcher and kaumatua of Te Matahauariki Institute and a Tainui Maniapoto Rangatira, Dr. Tui Adams.
Bentham gives a Poroporoaki to Tui Adams.

Kim Connolly-Stone: Lawyer and an Associate in the Māori Legal Group at Kensington Swan Law Firm and works predominantly on Treaty of Waitangi Settlements. Before joining the firm in May 2008, Kim worked as a consultant on a range of intellectual property, traditional knowledge and economic development matters.
"Internationally Kim has been closely involved in the work of the World Intellectual Property Organisation's Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore. Kim has also represented New Zealand at the Convention on Biological Diversity and the World Trade Organisation on matters concerning access to genetic resources and the sharing of benefits arising from the exploitation and patenting of inventions based on such resources and associated traditional knowledge." © 2009 Kensington Swan.
Willie talks with Kim about the Patents Law, which will better-protect Māori Culture and Traditions. Kim and her team made a submission last week along these lines and it coincides with the Y262 Claim which seeks comprehensive intellectual property Rights with indigenous Flora and Fauna. She goes on to explain.

Mamae Takarei: Mamae, a Kaikorero for Tainui, tells us about the successful Koroneihana Celebrations happened in Ngaruawahia during last week. She tells of the huge crowds that attended, a history of the event and identifying "Ariki."

Geoff Annals: CEO of the New Zealand Nurses Organisation. The NZNO is appalled by the governments decision to ignore the unanimous recommendation by the Health Select Committee with regards to Iwi Primary Health Care. Geoff talks to Willie about why the disparity with Māori Health Care.

John Tamihere & Dale Husband: This is a pre-recorded interview from a recent "Te Hunga Whaitake", "Newsmakers" programme on Radio Waatea.
Former Labour MP and media personality, John Tamihere, spoke at the National Māori Cancer Forum in Rotorua last week about Prostate Cancer. He said men's health education was sadly lacking in the Māori Community but no where near as bad as ten to fifteen years ago.
John talks with Dale about his presentation and where he hopes to take this issue next.

Duncan Garner: Qantas Media Award winning Political Editor, with a Weekly wrap-up of Politics. Duncan gives an update from Cabinet on the issue of Māori Seats on the Super City where it looks like Rodney Hide wins. They also talk about the Smacking Referendum.

Ken Laban: Lower Hutt Mayoral Candidate, Prominent Community Leader and Sports Analyst and Commentator, with a Weekly wrap-up of Sports. They talk about the All Black win over the Wallabies and the All Black Team. Also in Rugby, the Wellington win over Auckland, in the Shield Challenge, is also mentioned.
