From Radio NZ’s ‘Good Morning New Zealand’ programme.

Jonathan Dennis talks to Geoff Robinson about the discovery of one of the world’s oldest films Le Manoir Du Diable (Georges Méliès, France, 1896). A print of Le Manoir Du Diable (F4988) was found in a Christchurch junk shop. It is thought to be the only copy left in existence. Dennis describes the difficulties in positively identifying the film, restoring it, and presenting a print to the Méliès family in France. He also discusses Méliès’ importance in film history and possible reasons why Le Manoir Du Diable might have remained in New Zealand. Recorded off-air 12/10/1988.
