Paul Gittins presents a documentary series that seeks to unearth the truth behind headstone epitaphs. Tonight The Love Letter, a remote high country grave in Acheron Valley, North Canterbury, hides the story of Ivanhoe Augarde, whose love letter to his fiancee caused two violent deaths, including his own and The Legend of Tarore, in 1836 a 12 year old Maori girl was murdered by a scouting party from another tribe, her father Ngakuku rejected the notion of utu and forgave her killers.
