Black and white stills of Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt visiting and inspecting the American Red Cross Club and the Cecil Club on Lambton Quay, Wellington. These establishments were set-up so the US Marines could experience ‘home away from home’ while they were stationed in New Zealand. Also included on her itinerary this day is a visit to the Naval hospital at Silverstream in the Hutt Valley. The photography is by US Marines attached to specialist film units, who were stationed in New Zealand at this time. Stills in this set capture the First Lady’s visit and itinerary on her second day in the capital city, Sunday, 29 August 1943.
