Part of a programme on the return to New Zealand of H.M.N.Z.S. Bellona after the ship had completed a six-month world voyage.
[Recording begins part-way through the programme]

One of the 10 Fijian soldiers on board who is returning from Malaya on the Bellona is interviewed. Private Denari [?] a soldier from Lau, is interviewed. He is returning on medical grounds. There are about 30-35 Fijian men stationed where he was in Johor.

Also interviewed briefly is Surgeon Commander McCoy and dental officer Alexander Horne who talks on his visit to the casino in Monte Carlo.

Able Seaman Hartley is interviewed about money-changing during the voyage and the many currencies they encountered.

Captain J.E. Slaughter DSO, RN speaks to the men during the welcome to the Bellona.
The weather was very poor - commentary is heard describing the conditions on the [Hauraki] Gulf. As the Bellona approaches Devonport cars on shore sound their horns in welcome.

She was the first New Zealand naval vessel to visit Britain in peacetime. She will now go into reserve at Devonport as a training ship, but her crew will soon be off to Korea.
