Talk by L.N.E.Harris of Russell - Sport in New Caledonia:-

"The New Caledonian countrymen are interested in hunting, horse racing
and fishing. Deer hunting on horseback used to result in a large annual
kill, but now deer are rare. Bathing in the sea can be dangerous
because of sharks, but the rivers are good for keen swimmers. Fishing
can be done for mullet, cod, turtles, and sea cows".
