MURDOCH, J. H.

Talk by Captain J.H.Murdoch Auckland about some early experiences:-

"The soldiers were surprised on one occasion when they met some English
nurses at a party. The girls thought that the soldiers spoke in an
affected manner. On another occasion we were astonished to discover a
small Post Office miles from anywhere. The Chinese postman spoke
English well. It turned out he was born in Ponsonby Bay, Auckland 85
years ago. He left NZ for New Caledonia 60 years ago. While in Auckland
he worked for the timber firm, David Goldie & Co".
