Talk by Lieut-Colonel J. McCrae of Dunedin, Commandant Base Training
Depot, NZEFIP, Bourail, New Caledonia.
"The men here are reinforcements for forward areas and those not fit
enough for jungle warfare. Those training as reinforcements, for the
Solomons, go through an intensive training course with emphasis on
jungle, mountain and amphibious warfare conditions. Training is as
realistic as possible. Entertainment for the men is a problem however
there are pictures, occasional concerts, and dances. Sport is
encouraged. There is a well stocked canteen and base camps are poor
places to put in for any length of time.
