ROSE, J. D.

Talk by Captain J.D.Rose of Auckland. "The provision of supplies for the Nissan Operation".

"The voyage and the landing on the beach went without incident. Once on the beach riflemen fanned out into the jungle and settled in a perimeter around the beach-head. A bulldozer cleared dump areas for supplies and within a few hours the ship was unloaded. The soldiers had supplies of water and field rations. They were issued with jungle rations the next
day. By the third day we were advancing to the south portion of the island. Supply problems were arising as the old road was inadequate. The following day we rounded South Point and headed for the Mission. The Japanese had gone, to be finally annihilated the following day".
