Laurenson, Doug, Commentator

New Zealand Broadcasting Unit commentator Doug Laurenson [Military Service no. 34957] introduces greetings from New Zealand nurses serving in Egypt. [Part 1 of this recording does not exist.]

They were possibly recorded at No. 4 New Zealand General Hospital in Helwan, which opened in July 1940.
The first speaker, Doris Brown [military service number 1426] was Matron at 4NZGH. The other speakers who send greetings to New Zealand are Sister Eva Sutherland [34992], Sister Mina Harvey [9817], Sister Tui Warring [34998], Sister Margery Proffitt [34989], Sister Margaret McKenzie [34982], Sister Inga Sorenson [34991], Sister Mary Belk [34967] and sister Prudence Borlase [34316].

This item is part of a collection of recordings made by the Mobile Broadcasting Units, which travelled overseas with New Zealand forces between 1940-1945. They recorded New Zealanders' experiences of war and messages to their families and friends, which were sent back home to be played on a weekly radio programme.
