Chile promises tens of millions for development on Rapanui but it cuts no ice with some of the indigenous people; PNG blames its gun problems on smuggling across the border and will Indonesia do anything about its soldiers brutalising Papuan civilians; PNG Police say a drug syndicate operating between the country and Australia is fuelling local demand for marijuana; French Polynesia's former president, Gaston Flosse, has been fined 16,000 US dollars by the appeal court for destroying all evidence of his former espionage service; 147 candidates have lined up to contest next month's historic elections in Tonga; An opposition party in the Cook Islands claims the government is using a consignment of tractors from China to win favour with voters ahead of next month's election; A special meeting of the Melanesian Spearhead Group to discuss the proposed plan to hand over the chairmanship of the group from Vanuatu to Fiji via Solomon Islands has been postponed; The uniform is still on it's way and the oars are second-hand but this weekend Bradley Jowitt will become Samoa's first international rower at the World Championships taking place at Lake Karapiro.
