Checkpoint programme starts after the news and short weather forecast.
1. An increasing number of people in the stockbroking business are finding themselves in the ranks of the unemployed. In the wake of the October crash, a number of stockbroking firms have been laying off staff - and the latest to join the queue is one of NZ's largest - Buttle Wilson, which has axed thirty of its 150 staff.
2. The Development Finance Corporation's senior market analyst has suggested that the country's total debt has almost outstripped it's earning capacity.
3. A new Fijian constitution, drawn from two drafts, is at present being considered by government and legal authorities in Fiji. Meanwhile resistance is growing to the military regime of Rabuka.
