Checkpoint programme starts after the news and short weather forecast.
1. When Ruth Richardson was appointed as National's Finance spokesperson three months ago, it was expected that her forceful and dynamic style would shake up a sluggish opposition, bewildered by its poor showing in the polls.
2. Cease-fire negotiations between the Nicaraguan Government and the rebel Contras have broken down. The talks in the Dominican Republic capital of Santo Domingo, were to be the second round of negotiations for a cease fire.
3. There are growing fears in Fiji that the University of the South Pacific may be downgraded. The university is based in Suva and for years has been the focus of higher education in the region. But it is suggested that foreign aid may be channelled to institutions in other pacific countries.
