News from the Pacific presented by Johnny Blades, Radio New Zealand International.

In this week's programme:
Anger in Papua New Guinea over the sinking of an inter-island ferry. Exxon Mobil under pressure over last week's massive landslide in PNG's Southern Highlands province. Post-flood damage blame in Fiji and Marshall Islands wants to plug doctor shortage with Cubans. The Premier of Temotu Province in Solomon Islands says the rising sea level is causing food shortages and chewing up the shorelines of low lying islands. The Director General of the Melanesian Spearhead Group says the group will continue to support New Caledonia's FLNKS in its pro-independence cause. A court decision is due in Tahiti next week that could nullify a resolution passed by the French Polynesian assembly seeking the territory's reinscription on the UN decolonisation list. The head of one of the Fiji provinces earmarked for a potentially huge copper and gold mine denies that the interim government is pressuring landowners to allow the project to proceed. A huge centuries old ceremonial club from the Cook Islands is set to turn collectors heads at an Oceanic art auction in the United States next week. (11 February).
