1. Progress on a new constitution for Fiji has come under scrutiny again this week.

2. MPs from across the Pacific are spending the weekend debating regional issues, as Wellington hosts a parliamentary forum.

3. Voters in French Polynesia will go to the polls on Sunday in the first round of the territorial election for a new 57-member assembly.

4. The President of the autonomous Papua New Guinea province of Bougainville, John Momis, says the province fears foreigners could take over the local retail sector, so his government will legislate to restrict their involvement.

5. Although mobile phone technology is helping to expose the issue more, there continues to be impunity for perpetrators of torture by security forces in the Pacific Islands region

6. Kiribati has held a public meeting to discuss the effects of climate change on the country and what the people can do about it.

7. Hawaii's Department of Land and Natural Resources has given the nod for one of the biggest telescopes in the world to be built on a mountain some indigenous people consider sacred.

8. Health authorities in Papua New Guinea are trying to heighten community awareness about chikungunya - a disease spread by mosquitoes.
