In this week’s programme:

1. Issues of decolonisation and self-determination took centre stage at the just-completed 19th Melanesian Spearhead Group Leaders Summit in New Caledonia.

2. Human rights groups say there is no processing system in place for asylum seekers on Manus Island and the process on Nauru could take up to five years.

3. The Cook Islands police commissioner, Ma'ara Tetava, is expecting a scoping team from New Zealand to help establish a youth rehabilitation programme.

4. Strong community involvement has been key in helping a province in Solomon Islands move towards eliminating malaria.

5. At least two of Vanuatu's copra exporters are rallying against the government, which they say owes them huge sums in subsidies.

6. The Solomon Islands World Heritage area of East Rennell has been inscribed on a list of endangered sites by UNESCO because of the effect of logging on the island's ecosystem.

7. It's volunteer week and one of the key people in the New Zealand voluntary aid organisation, Volunteer Service Abroad, over the past 13 years, has been Dr Peter Swain.
