An interview with broadcaster Joan Faulkner Blake who previews the inaugural flight from Sydney to Johannesburg by Qantas Airlines. Mrs. Blake is one of 12 selected to join the press and radio party on the flight.

She is the only New Zealander on the flight. which will go from Sydney via Perth, Cocos-Keeling Islands, Mauritius and Johannesburg. The 'hop' from Cocos to Mauritius is the longest of any in the world.

The route was pioneered by Captain P.G.Taylor, 12 years ago. It is expected it will take three days from Australia, with an actual flying time of 49 hours. It is imagined it will fly each way, once a fortnight. The inaugural flight will be undertaken using a Constellation aircraft. In the future jet aircraft may be used.

Side 2.
Episode 173, Part 3. Mr. Vernon Young, the great-great grandson of Ned Young a mutineer from the 'Bounty' who occupied Pitcairn Island in 1790, talks about life on Pitcairn Island. In the talk he explains that most of the Islanders' shopping is done by post. There is no doctor on the island and if any one gets sick then they have to be taken by ship to New Zealand. The majority of the Islanders are Seventh Day Adventists and the Pacific Island community were given back the original bible that came from H.M.S. Bounty.
