Wendt, Albert, 1939-

Albert Wendt, a Samoan novelist and poet, talks about his life in Samoa. He withdraws from the community and needs solitude when he writes, otherwise he is very community spirited. Appreciates the Samoan feeling of community and has spent 9 years re-learning the culture. He refused a leadership title because he believed he was not yet ready. Believes no one should accept political power until they are capable of handling it.
