Audio from the third reading of the Marriage (Definition of Marriage) Amendment Bill in Parliament on 17 April 2013. The Bill is sometimes colloquially known as the marriage equality bill, gay marriage bill or same-sex marriage bill. It passed its third reading - 77 ayes / 44 noes.

This bill seeks to amend the Marriage Act 1955 to ensure that its provisions are not applied in a discriminatory manner. The bill aims to ensure that all people, regardless of sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity will have the opportunity to marry if they so choose.
