A weekly wrap-up of news, issues and current affairs from the Pacific. The programme is broadcast nationwide every Saturday evening on Radio New Zealand National and is produced by the newsroom of Radio New Zealand International. The following rundown is supplied from the broadcaster’s news system:

1. Fiji says it will only consider re-joining the Pacific Islands Forum, if key donors, Australia and New Zealand, quit the organisation.

2. For the second time in a fortnight the Nauru opposition has been banned from having local media cover their criticism of government actions - this time the government's conflicting reports on plans to house refugees on the island.

3, Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister (visiting Wellington) says his administration is going further than any previous government in addressing core issues that the country has struggled with since gaining independence in 1975.

4. Tuvalu has a new government headed by former opposition leader, Enele Sopoaga.

5. The Cook Islands community in New Zealand says while good work is being done in early education, much more is needed to preserve the Cook Islands language for future generations.
