A weekly wrap-up of news, issues and current affairs from the Pacific. The programme is broadcast nationwide every Saturday evening on Radio New Zealand National and is produced by the newsroom of Radio New Zealand International. The following rundown is supplied from the broadcaster’s news system:

1. A group for nuclear disarmament [i.e. Nuclear Age Peace Foundation] is commending the Marshall Islands for standing up to the world's nuclear super powers.

2. The Fiji Labour Party says there is no chance of free and fair elections this year, with the appointment of a biased elections supervisor and a decree that could protect vote riggers.

3. The Fiji regime has again warned people are stirring up trouble over land as Fiji heads towards elections in September.

4. The United Nations Population Fund is urging Pacific governments to invest more in sex education and youth-friendly family planning centres to combat high rates of teen pregnancy.

5. A new video published by Australian media shows security guards at Australia's Manus Island detention centre in Papua New Guinea attacking asylum seekers the night before a 23-year-old was killed in February.

6. This year is the 20th anniversary of the volcanic eruption which devastated Rabaul in Papua New Guinea.
