1. This Wednesday the people of Fiji go to the polls for the first time in more than eight years after a military coup in 2006 led by then Commodore Frank Bainimarama.

2. The cost of living, jobs and land ... they're the big issues for many of Fiji's grassroots in the countdown to next week's election, the first after nearly eight years of military rule.

3. French Polynesia has a new president after the veteran leader Gaston Flosse was forced out of office because of corruption.

4. The second biggest party to emerge from Papua New Guinea's 2012 election is now officially out of the government coalition.

5. The head of an anti-corruption task force in Papua New Guinea says he has not been paid for weeks, despite a court order blocking the government from doing so.

6. The Solomon Island government is negotiating the purchase of the Gold Ridge gold mine from the Australian company St Barbara.

7. It's been a been a big few days for Samoan rugby, with confirmation the All Blacks will play a test in Apia next year and the announcement of a major sponsorship deal.
